Things to look for when choosing a mobile app developer Image

With the increase of mobile app popularity of course comes an increase in mobile app developers to choose from.  We wanted to give some tips for selecting the right developer so you will have the best possible app for your users!

When selecting a development company is important to look at a number of factors.  Here are some things to look for when considering a mobile app developer:

Knowledge

The developer should have a high knowledge of mobile application development.  Seems fairly basic, but a common misconception is that building websites or Mac OS X or Windows applications is the same thing as native mobile app development.  Listen carefully to ensure you are getting the type of application you want: native development vs. Web app.

Experience

A good thing to ask is if the developer has experience developing an app similar to yours. Even if they haven’t built the exact same functionality they should be confident that their software solution work for the piece of functionality you are requesting.

Portfolio

Having a portfolio is a good thing.  Hopefully you can find their portfolio on their website, but if not make sure you ask to see examples of their work and companies they have worked with. The great thing about the type of product that we build is we can just point potential clients to the app stores to interact directly with our apps.

References

Don’t be afraid to ask for references.  Talking to a company’s references can give you a good sense for their work ethic and if they deliver on promises.

Communication

Good communication is also a bonus.  You should be able to reach your developer very easily and they should be able to answer questions about the progress of your project.

A reliable, reputable company will be proud to share the work they have created and be able to give you examples of their work.  For example we developed a mobile banking app  and are very proud to share this fact. Delivering a banking app shows our level of skill and how we deliver on promises, so much so that a banking company entrusts our company to deliever a high-quality and high-security app for their members. With that experience and other work we have done we are also confident when we say we can do the work within a certain price and timeline. We are also very transparent with our process which also helps to create strong lines of communication between ourselves and our clients.  Our clients know what is going on in their project and receive continual progress and budget updates from our team.

We thought this was an important topic to touch upon because we have been seeing a troubling trend of developers promising to do work they cannot deliver on.  If it seems to good to be true, if often is!  We have seen an increase in clients saying they were promised an app from another developer and they ended up with nothing to show for it in the end.  It is often difficult to salvage any sort of workable code from these failed projects and we more often than not need to start from scratch.  To avoid paying for a product that is never delivered on, we encourage you to check out the company you are working with, just like you would a potential new job hire. Make sure they can deliver on the work and know what they are talking about!

If you have any questions for us about our process or how we could work together to develop a mobile app for your organization, don’t hesitate to call us at 1-800-298-7081
